在多年英语编辑实际工作中，笔者经常发现有些作者会忽略比较对象的一致性问题，从而在写作时出现逻辑上或语法上不一致的错误。

例一：Is the Net Worth of Financial Intermediaries More Important than Non-Financial Companies?

很显然，上句中的“Net Worth”和“Non-Financial Companies”不属于同一范畴，没有“可比性”。从逻辑上讲，“Financial Intermediaries”的“Net Worth”只能与“Non-Financial Companies”的“Net Worth”进行比较。所以，上句应修正为：“Is the Net Worth of Financial Intermediaries More Important than That of Non-Financial Companies”?

例二：The welfare of humans is more “important” than animals.

上句中的“welfare”和“animals”也不属于同一范畴，根本没有“可比性”。而“humans”的“welfare”与“animals”的“welfare”属于同一范畴，可进行比较。所以，该句子的正确形式应为：“The welfare of humans is more “important” than that of animals”。

例三：The population growth rate of this year is expected to be 10% higher than last year.

上句也存在比较对象的不一致性问题，应更正为：“The population growth rate of this year is expected to be 10% higher than last year’s”或“The population growth rate of this year is expected to be 10% higher than that of last year”。
