在科技英语中，特别是在论文题目中，“基于”出现的频次比较高。在多年的英文编辑工作实践中，笔者经常发现有些作者不能正确翻译“基于”，例如，“基于神经网络的煤层气藏随机建模”被译成“Stochastic simulation of coalbed methane reservoir base neural network”，其正确翻译应为“Stochastic simulation of coalbed methane reservoirbased onneural network”或“Neural network-basedstochastic simulation of coalbed methane reservoir”。由此可看出，“基于”的翻译一般有两种：一种是“based on”，而另一种是“based-”。
